More Than Silver and Gold

Scripture Reading: Acts 3:1–10

Key Verse: Acts 3:6 (NIV) — “Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’

There’s something deeply profound about this encounter at the gate called Beautiful. A man who had been lame from birth was carried daily to beg from those entering the temple courts. His life was reduced to handouts—surviving on the mercy of others, hoping for a few coins to make it through the day. But on this particular day, something different happened.

Peter and John, on their way to pray, were interrupted by this man’s cry for help. Instead of reaching for their wallets, Peter offered him something more—something greater than silver and gold. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, he told the man to walk. And the miracle happened. Strength entered the man’s ankles, and for the first time in his life, he stood, walked, and even leaped—praising God.

This passage teaches us that God often gives us not what we want, but what we truly need. The lame man wanted money, but God gave him mobility. He expected coins, but he received healing, hope, and a testimony. God used Peter and John to shift the man’s life from survival to significance.

Today, we are often focused on the tangible—finances, status, possessions. But God is reminding us through this scripture that there are gifts far more valuable than silver and gold: peace in the storm, healing in our brokenness, purpose in our pain, and salvation for our souls.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to value what truly matters. Teach me to see beyond silver and gold and to desire more of Your presence and power in my life. Use me as a vessel to bring Your healing and hope to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
