Scripture Focus: Psalm 103:6 – "The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed."
Devotional:
In a world where injustice seems to make headlines daily, where people are wrongly accused, mistreated, or silenced. it is easy to wonder: Is God paying attention? Does He care that some voices go unheard, that some people suffer silently under the weight of unfair systems?
Psalm 103:6 offers a strong and comforting answer: "The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed."
This verse does not say God might get involved. It says He works, present tense. He is actively doing justice, even when we cannot see it unfold in real time. That is the hard part: His justice does not always show up on our schedule, and it may not take the shape we expect.
God Sees What We Miss
We tend to define justice based on what we want to happen now. We want wrongs made right, apologies issued, and fairness restored, immediately. And when that does not happen, we may assume God is absent.
But Scripture shows us a different picture. In the story of the Israelites under Egyptian slavery, God told Moses: “I have indeed seen the misery of my people… I have heard them crying out... and I am concerned about their suffering.” (Exodus 3:7)
God’s justice starts with seeing. He does not overlook pain. He notices every tear shed in silence, every unfair judgment, every time someone is denied dignity or opportunity.
Justice May Be Slow, But It Is Sure
Sometimes we forget that God’s justice is not always public or immediate, but it is always perfect. Think about the life of Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, wrongfully imprisoned, and forgotten. For years, it seemed like injustice had the final word. But in time, God raised Joseph up to a position of influence, not just to rescue himself, but to save a nation.
Justice took time. But it came.
When You Feel Powerless, He is Present
You may not have a voice in a courtroom or a title that demands attention. Maybe you have been overlooked at work, misjudged by others, or pushed aside in your community. Maybe you have tried to speak up but felt ignored.
Please hear this: God is not ignoring you. The same God who defended the oppressed in Scripture is still active today. He does not need headlines or hashtags to move on your behalf. His justice is deeper than human opinion and stronger than institutional power.
Living With Hope, Not Bitterness
It is easy to become angry or bitter in the face of injustice. But bitterness only deepens the pain. Instead, allow God’s justice to anchor you. That does not mean ignoring injustice or staying silent. It means trusting that God is working, sometimes through us, sometimes beyond us, but always for what is right.
When you pray for justice, believe that you are not praying into an empty sky. You are praying to the Defender of the voiceless, the God who lifts up the broken, and the One who still works righteousness for all who are oppressed.
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, help me not to lose hope when the world feels unjust. Thank You for seeing what others miss and working behind the scenes on my behalf. Teach me to trust Your timing and to reflect Your justice in how I treat others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
