Scripture: “Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there…” (Matthew 21:12, NIV)
When Jesus walked into the temple, He wasn’t impressed by the business taking place in God’s house. He overturned tables and sent the money changers out because they had turned a holy place into a market. The temple was meant for prayer, worship, and communion with God, not selfish gain.
Today, the Spirit reminds us that we are God’s temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). And just like in Jerusalem, Jesus wants to cleanse His dwelling place. Sometimes what defiles us isn’t obvious sin but subtle habits, hidden motives, or misplaced priorities—greed, bitterness, addiction, pride, secret compromises, or even an obsession with busyness that crowds out prayer.
Think about it: have we allowed things into our hearts that choke intimacy with God? Social media distractions, unhealthy relationships, or the quiet love of money can all set up “tables” in our inner temple. Christ, in His mercy, comes not to condemn but to drive out what does not belong—if we let Him.
When Jesus cleanses, He restores. The temple went back to its original purpose: a house of prayer. In the same way, when Christ cleanses us, He renews us for worship, peace, and spiritual strength. His deliverance isn’t about shame; it’s about freedom.
Today, invite Jesus to step into your temple. Give Him permission to overturn every “table” that keeps you from His presence. What He drives out, He replaces with His Spirit, His peace, and His power.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I open the doors of my heart to You. Drive out every thought, desire, and habit that defiles me. Cleanse me with Your blood and make me a vessel of prayer, purity, and power. Amen.
Reflection Question
What “tables” might Jesus be asking you to overturn in your heart today?
