Scripture Reading: “You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf.” – Colossians 1:7 (NIV)Devotional
When Paul wrote to the believers in Colossae, he highlighted Epaphras, the one who had first shared the gospel with them. He wasn’t a famous apostle, nor did he write letters that ended up in Scripture. Yet, Paul called him “our dear fellow servant” and “a faithful minister of Christ.” That’s high praise coming from the Apostle Paul!
Epaphras reminds us that God’s work doesn’t only depend on big names or platforms. Often, it’s the everyday faithfulness of ordinary people that keeps the gospel alive in communities. Epaphras cared deeply for the Colossians, prayed earnestly for them (Colossians 4:12), and served without seeking recognition. His life shows us that faithfulness in service matters more than fame.
Like Epaphras, we may not always be in the spotlight. But when we faithfully share Christ with our families, pray for our communities, and love those God puts in our path, we are serving just as powerfully. True greatness in God’s Kingdom comes from faithfulness, not fame.
Practical Takeaway
- Be faithful where you are. Don’t underestimate the value of your daily witness.
- Pray for others. Epaphras was known for his prayers. Who can you lift up today?
- Serve Christ, not recognition. The applause of heaven is greater than the praise of people.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the example of Epaphras. Help me to serve You faithfully, whether seen or unseen. May my prayers, words, and actions point others to Christ. Amen.
