Scripture: “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.’” – Luke 11:39 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
The Pharisees prided themselves on religious rituals. They washed their hands before meals and followed every visible tradition to appear righteous. Yet Jesus exposed the truth, they were spotless on the outside but filthy within. Their hearts were filled with pride, greed, and hypocrisy.
God is not impressed by outward appearances. He desires truth in our inner being (Psalm 51:6). We may attend church faithfully, serve in ministries, and quote scripture, but if our hearts are bitter, jealous, or self-seeking, we are no different from the Pharisees. True holiness begins where no one else can see within.
Let’s pause today and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the hidden attitudes and motives of our hearts. Ask Him to cleanse you from the inside out so that your actions reflect a heart truly surrendered to God.
Life Application
Don’t settle for surface-level spirituality. Cultivate inner purity through daily repentance, prayer, and obedience to God’s Word. Let your character speak louder than your rituals.
Prayer
Lord, cleanse my heart from pride and hypocrisy. Create in me a pure heart and renew a right spirit within me. Help me to live sincerely before You, both inside and out. Amen.
