Encountering God Through Christ

Scriptural Reading

John 1:14–18 (NRSV)
“And the Word became flesh and lived among us… No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.”

Quote
“Jesus Christ is the human face of God’s grace.”
— Karl Barth

Devotional Reflection

John opens his Gospel by taking us deep into the mystery of God and then brings that mystery close enough to touch. The eternal Word did not remain distant or abstract. He became flesh. God chose visibility. God chose nearness. God chose relationship.

From a theological perspective, this passage affirms that Jesus is not merely a messenger of God but the very revelation of God. To see Christ is to encounter the heart of the Father. When John says that the Son “has made him known,” he is saying that everything we need to know about God’s character, love, mercy, and truth is revealed in Jesus. God is no longer hidden behind symbols or laws alone. God is known through a living person.

In everyday life, many people say they want to know God, yet they search in fear, confusion, or performance. This text gently redirects us. Knowing God does not begin with trying harder or being perfect. It begins with looking at Christ. In His compassion, His justice, His forgiveness, and His sacrifice, we meet God as He truly is.

Our encounters with God today happen as we walk with Christ daily. In prayer, in Scripture, in obedience, and even in suffering, Christ continues to make the Father known. Faith becomes less about information and more about relationship. When we choose to follow Jesus closely, our lives slowly begin to reflect the God we have encountered.

Prayer

Gracious Father,
Thank You for making Yourself known through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to see You more clearly as I walk with Him daily. Draw me beyond religion into true relationship. Let my life reflect the grace and truth I encounter in Christ. Teach me to know You, love You, and live for You.
Amen.

Benediction

May the God who revealed Himself in Christ draw you closer each day,
and may you walk in grace, truth, and the light of His presence.
Amen.
