Scripture Reading
Mark 6:7–13 (focus on verse 11)
“If any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
Devotional Reflection
Rejection is one of the hardest realities of obedience. We often assume that if God sent us, people must accept us. Yet in Mark 6, Jesus prepares His disciples for rejection before they ever experience success. He does not warn them because rejection means failure. He warns them because rejection is part of faithful service.
Jesus makes something clear: acceptance is not the measure of obedience. Faithfulness is. The disciples were to preach repentance, heal the sick, and cast out demons. Their responsibility ended with obedience. The response of the people was never theirs to control.
Shaking the dust off their feet was not an act of anger or bitterness. It was an act of release. It meant, “I have done what I was sent to do, and I move on without carrying the weight of rejection.” This instruction protects the servant from discouragement, resentment, and self-doubt.
Many believers stop serving because rejection makes them question their calling. Others try to adjust the message to gain approval. Jesus offers a better way. Stay true to the assignment. Walk in peace. Leave outcomes with God.
Rejection does not cancel your calling. It confirms that you are human and obedient in a world that does not always receive truth.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, give me the grace to obey You fully without tying my worth to people’s responses. Heal my heart from past rejections and teach me to release what I cannot change. Help me to walk forward in peace, confident that You are pleased with my obedience. Amen.
Benediction
May you walk in courage, serve in faithfulness, and rest in the assurance that obedience to God is never wasted. May the peace of Christ guard your heart as you move forward in His assignment. Amen.
