Scripture Reading:
"They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘Declares the Lord,’ when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect Him to fulfill their word." — Ezekiel 13:6-7 (ESV)
Whose Voice Are You Listening To?
We live in a time where information is everywhere—on social media, in the news, and even in the church. Many people claim to speak for God, offering advice, prophecies, and revelations. But just as in Ezekiel’s time, not every voice that speaks in God’s name is truly from Him.
Ezekiel 13 warns against false prophets who misled Israel by claiming to speak God’s word when He had not sent them. These prophets gave people false hope, telling them what they wanted to hear instead of what God had truly said. Today, we face the same danger—believing words that sound spiritual but are not rooted in God’s truth.
How to Discern God’s Voice
-
Test Every Word Against Scripture
God's Word is the ultimate truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17). If a message contradicts Scripture, it is not from God. Before accepting any teaching or prophecy, compare it to what the Bible says. -
Pray for Discernment
James 1:5 reminds us that God gives wisdom to those who ask. When uncertain, pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. He will help you distinguish truth from deception. -
Be Wary of Feel-Good Messages
In Ezekiel’s time, false prophets told people what they wanted to hear: “Peace, peace,” when there was no peace (Ezekiel 13:10). Today, we must be cautious of messages that appeal to our desires but ignore God’s call to repentance and obedience. -
Follow the Holy Spirit’s Leading
Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth (John 16:13). A message from God will always align with His character, bring conviction, and lead to spiritual growth.
Reflection Questions
- Have you ever believed something that sounded good but wasn’t from God?
- How do you confirm whether a message is truly from God?
- Are you prioritizing God’s voice over human opinions in your decisions?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in a world full of voices, help me to hear Yours clearly. Give me discernment to recognize truth and reject deception. Teach me to rely on Your Word and Holy Spirit for guidance. May I always follow Your voice, even when it challenges me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
