Scripture: “Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which has eyes to see but does not see, and ears to hear but does not hear; for they are a rebellious house.” — Ezekiel 12:2 (NKJV)
Devotional:
In Ezekiel 12, God speaks of the Israelites as a people with eyes but unable to see, and ears but unable to hear. Their physical senses worked, but their hearts were hardened, making them spiritually blind and deaf to God's voice. They had witnessed God’s miracles, heard His prophets, and seen His warnings, yet they refused to change.
Spiritual blindness and deafness are not caused by a lack of knowledge but by a refusal to accept the truth. Many times, God speaks to us—through His Word, the Holy Spirit, or even life’s circumstances—but we fail to listen. We choose convenience over conviction, comfort over correction.
Jesus also spoke of this in Matthew 13:15, saying that people’s hearts had grown dull, their ears hard of hearing, and their eyes closed. The danger of ignoring God's voice is that we can become desensitized to His guidance. The more we resist, the harder it becomes to recognize His direction.
Reflection:
- Are there areas in your life where you are ignoring God's voice?
- Do you see His hand at work but refuse to acknowledge it?
- Are you truly listening when He speaks, or do you allow distractions to drown Him out?
Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to see Your truth and my ears to hear Your voice. Remove any spiritual blindness or deafness from my heart. Help me to be attentive to Your Word and obedient to Your direction. Soften my heart so I may walk in Your will and not my own. In Jesus' name, Amen.
