God’s Miracle Will Shock You” – Trusting the God Who Exceeds Expectations

Scripture: “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.” — Psalm 126:1 (ESV)

Devotional

Have you ever stood in a moment so sweet, so sudden, and so full of joy that you had to pinch yourself to believe it was real? That’s the emotional weight behind Psalm 126:1. God had done something so big for Israel, it felt like a dream.

This isn’t just poetry, it’s testimony. The people of God had been in exile, worn out by years of struggle. Then, in one powerful move, God restored them. And their only response was stunned joy: “We were like those who dreamed.”

This is a reminder that God’s work can be so overwhelming, so beyond human expectation, that it stuns us into praise.

The Reality Behind the Dream

The context of Psalm 126 points to the return of the Israelites from Babylonian captivity, an event they had waited and wept for, generation after generation. God didn’t just ease their burden; He erased it. He didn’t just give them a flicker of hope; He flooded them with restoration.

What was once impossible suddenly became their reality.

This is how God works. He’s not bound by our timelines, our logic, or our limitations. When He moves, it often leaves us speechless.

Isaiah 43:19 says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
That “new thing” may be out of sight now, but it is never out of reach for God.

Trust the God Who Surprises

God specializes in the unexpected. He turned water into wine at a wedding (John 2), fed thousands with a little boy’s lunch (Matthew 14), and raised Lazarus from the dead after four days (John 11). Each time, people stood in awe. And He’s still doing miracles today.

It’s tempting to expect only small things from God, the kind we think are “realistic.” But Scripture teaches us to raise our faith, not shrink it. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.”

If it feels impossible, then it’s the perfect setup for God’s power.

Hold On — Your Testimony Is Loading

Don’t quit because the wait is long or the road is rough. Psalm 126 doesn’t start with laughter, it starts with a memory of pain turned into joy. That means your current struggle may be the very soil where God’s miracle will grow.

Sometimes, God takes His time because He wants to build something that shocks you, humbles you, and glorifies Him. When it finally comes, you’ll look around in amazement and say, “Is this real?”

Yes. It is. And it’s God.

Reflection

  • What’s one area in your life where you’ve stopped expecting God to move?
  • Are you willing to trust Him again, even if the answer feels delayed?
  • What miracle would leave you saying, “This feels like a dream”?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I believe You are still the God who shocks us with miracles. Help me not to limit You with my doubt or fear. When things feel delayed or impossible, remind me of Your faithfulness to Zion. Surprise me with Your goodness. Let me live to see the dream become my reality. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
