Scripture: “Son of man, you live in the midst of a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house.” – Ezekiel 12:2 (CSB)
Devotional Reflection:
Ezekiel was given a difficult task—he had to act out a prophetic sign of exile before the people of Israel. This act was unusual and likely made him the subject of mockery. Yet, Ezekiel obeyed God without hesitation. His fear of God outweighed his fear of people.
Many times, we struggle with obedience because we are afraid of what others will think. We hesitate to share our faith, pray publicly, or stand for righteousness because we fear rejection, ridicule, or persecution. However, Jesus reminds us in Matthew 10:28, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
The Israelites in Ezekiel’s time ignored God's warnings because they prioritized their own desires and the opinions of their peers over God's truth. They had eyes but refused to see, ears but refused to hear. Their fear of man led them into rebellion and eventual exile.
Personal Application:
- Are there areas in your life where you hesitate to obey God because of what others might think?
- Have you allowed the fear of man to silence your faith or compromise your values?
- Today, ask God to give you the boldness to walk in obedience, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that at times, I have allowed the fear of others to hold me back from fully obeying You. Help me to fear You above all else and to walk in boldness, knowing that Your approval is greater than the world's acceptance. Strengthen me to stand firm in faith, no matter the cost. In Jesus' name, Amen.
