Scripture: “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” – Ezekiel 22:30 (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Martha sat on her bed, scrolling through the news on her phone. Corruption, violence, immorality—one tragedy after another. With a heavy sigh, she whispered, “God, what is happening to our world?”
Then, she heard the quiet nudge in her spirit: Who is praying for them?
Ezekiel 22:30 paints a heartbreaking picture—God searched for one person to intercede on behalf of the people, but He found none. It wasn’t that there weren’t religious leaders, prophets, or people who knew about God. But no one was willing to step in, to pray, to stand in the gap.
Martha had always thought of prayer as something pastors and church elders did. But in that moment, she realized—I can pray. I can stand in the gap.
God is still searching for intercessors today. He is looking for people who will pray for their families, communities, and nations. Sometimes, we think the world’s problems are too big for us. But prayer is not a last resort—it is the first and most powerful response.
Reflection Questions:
- Are you burdened by what is happening around you?
- Have you taken those burdens to God in prayer?
- How can you be intentional about standing in the gap for others today?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, give me a heart like Yours—one that weeps for the brokenness around me. Help me to stand in the gap for my family, my community, and my nation. Let me be faithful in prayer, knowing that You hear and respond. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
