Lenten Devotional – Day 2
Scripture Readings:
Deuteronomy 30:15-20 – "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil..."
Psalm 1 – "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked..."
Luke 9:22-25 – "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily..."
Reflection:
The Lenten season is a time of deep reflection and renewal, a period where we stand at a crossroads much like the Israelites in Deuteronomy 30. God sets before us two paths—life or death, blessing or curse. The choice is ours, but the call is clear: Choose life by walking in obedience to God.
Psalm 1 reinforces this truth by describing the contrast between the righteous and the wicked. Those who delight in the law of the Lord are like trees planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in due season. However, those who reject God’s ways are like chaff, driven away by the wind. Lent invites us to assess our spiritual walk—are we rooted in God's Word, or have we drifted into complacency?
In Luke 9, Jesus takes this call further. Choosing life in Christ means embracing the cross daily. It is a call to self-denial, surrender, and trust. We cannot hold onto the world and its fleeting pleasures while claiming to follow Jesus. True discipleship demands sacrifice, but in losing ourselves for Christ’s sake, we find life eternal.
Lenten Challenge:
- Reflect – What choices are you making that draw you closer to or farther from God?
- Repent – Identify areas where you need to deny yourself and realign with God’s will.
- Renew – Meditate on God’s Word, commit to daily prayer, and choose to walk in righteousness.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as I journey through this Lenten season, help me to choose life by walking in Your ways. Strengthen my heart to delight in Your Word and take up my cross daily in faithful obedience. May I die to self and live fully for You. Amen.
