A Call to Intercession and True Witness

Lenten Devotional – Day 26

Scripture Readings:

Exodus 32:7-14 – Moses' intercession for Israel

Psalm 106:19-23 – Remembering Moses' plea

John 5:31-end – Jesus' testimony and the call to belief

As we journey through the 26th day of Lent, we are reminded of the power of intercession, the dangers of idolatry, and the call to bear true witness to Christ.

In Exodus 32:7-14, we see the Israelites turning away from God to worship a golden calf. Their rebellion stirs God's righteous anger, yet Moses, standing in the gap, pleads for mercy on their behalf. His intercession moves God's heart, reminding us that a true leader does not abandon their people but prays for their restoration.

Psalm 106:19-23 echoes this moment, recounting how the people forgot the God who saved them and provoked His wrath. Yet, it was Moses’ intervention that prevented their destruction. This passage calls us to examine our own hearts: Have we built golden calves of materialism, pride, or self-will? Lent is a time to tear down these idols and return to God with humility.

In John 5:31-end, Jesus speaks of His divine testimony. Unlike the Israelites who sought signs and miracles but missed God, Jesus urges us to believe in Him through the witness of Scripture, John the Baptist, and the works He does. The religious leaders rejected Christ because their hearts were hardened, much like the Israelites in the wilderness. This passage challenges us: Are we truly seeking God, or are we caught up in religious activity without intimacy with Him?

Lenten Reflection:

  1. Intercede Like Moses: Pray for those who have strayed from God. Your intercession can bring redemption and restoration.
  2. Tear Down Idols: Identify anything in your life that takes God's place. Repent and realign your heart with His.
  3. Believe in Christ’s Testimony: Lent calls us to deepen our faith. Are we truly embracing Christ’s message, or are we like the Pharisees, blind to His truth?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and patience. Forgive us when we stray, and help us to intercede for others as Moses did. Remove every idol from our hearts and draw us closer to You. May we bear true witness to Christ in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May this Lenten season be a time of deep reflection, repentance, and renewal. Stay steadfast, for God’s mercy endures forever!
