Boldness in the Face of Truth

Lent devotional -Day 27

Scriptures:
Jeremiah 26:1, 12-22
Psalm 34:15–end
John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30

As we journey through Day 27 of Lent, today’s readings call us into a deep reflection on boldness, truth-telling, and God’s divine protection. In this sacred season, we are reminded not just to fast or pray, but to stand for truth even when it’s inconvenient, dangerous, or lonely.

In Jeremiah 26, we meet the prophet Jeremiah boldly proclaiming God’s message in the temple courts. His words were not popular—they were confrontational, calling people to repentance. The response? A demand for his death. Yet, Jeremiah stands unwavering: “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city…” (v.12). In Lent, we are called to be like Jeremiah—willing to declare uncomfortable truths, beginning with ourselves. Where in your life is God calling you to speak the truth in love, even when it's hard?

Psalm 34 gives us the assurance we need in times like these: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry” (v.15). The psalmist reminds us that though the righteous may face many afflictions, “the Lord delivers him out of them all.” This is the encouragement we need during Lent—a reminder that our sacrifices, prayers, and acts of truth will not go unnoticed. God is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

In John 7, we see Jesus Himself living out this call. He moves in secrecy at first, knowing the Jewish leaders sought to kill Him. But later, He teaches boldly in the temple courts. The people are amazed—not just at His words, but at the courage to speak when His life is under threat. Jesus says, “You know me, and you know where I come from. I have not come on my own; but he who sent me is true.” Lent invites us to this same kind of obedience—speaking and living the truth of who sent us, no matter the cost.

Prayer:

Lord, give me the boldness of Jeremiah and the courage of Jesus. In this Lenten season, refine me through truth. Help me speak it, live it, and never shy away from it—even when it costs me. Let my heart rest in the promise that You are near to those who fear You. Strengthen me to carry my cross and follow You—faithfully and fearlessly. Amen.

Let this be your Lenten declaration today: “I will not be silent. I will be faithful. I will be bold.”
