Look and Live

Lenten Devotional – Day 30

Scriptures: Numbers 21:4-9 | Psalm 102:1-3, 16-23 | John 8:21-30

As we journey through Day 30 of this sacred Lenten season, we are reminded of the power of God's mercy and the call to repentance and faith.

In Numbers 21:4-9, the Israelites grew impatient on their way to the Promised Land. They grumbled against God and Moses, forgetting all God had done for them. Because of their rebellion, poisonous snakes came among them, and many died. But when the people confessed their sin, God, in His mercy, told Moses to make a bronze snake and lift it on a pole. Anyone who looked at it lived. It wasn’t the bronze snake that saved them—it was their obedience and faith in God's word.

This story mirrors what Jesus speaks about in John 8:21-30. Jesus tells the people that unless they believe in Him, they will die in their sins. He reminds them that He is not of this world but was sent by the Father to save them. Just as the Israelites had to look up to the bronze snake to live, we must look to Jesus lifted on the cross to receive eternal life. Believing in Him brings healing, forgiveness, and new life.

Psalm 102:1-3, 16-23 echoes the cry of a heart in distress—much like many of us during this Lenten season. “Hear my prayer, O Lord,” the psalmist pleads. He feels broken, weak, and forgotten. But even in his pain, he finds hope that the Lord will rebuild and restore Zion. Our moments of weakness, suffering, and silence are not wasted. God sees, He hears, and He is working behind the scenes.

Reflection:
Lent is a season to look up. Not to our own strength, not to our past, but to Jesus—who was lifted on the cross for our sins. When we repent, turn our eyes to Him, and believe, we are made whole. No matter how far we have gone, His mercy reaches farther.

Prayer:
Lord, we confess that we often complain and doubt Your plan, just like the Israelites. Forgive us. Help us to lift our eyes to Jesus, our Healer and Savior. As we walk through this Lenten season, give us the grace to repent daily and trust deeply. Strengthen us in our weakness and remind us that in You, we live. Amen.

Takeaway:
Today, let your heart be still and your eyes be fixed on Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Look to Him and live.
