Lent Devotional-Day 31
Scriptures: Daniel 3:14-20, 24-25 & John 8:31-42
As we journey through this 31st day of Lent, the Lord calls us to reflect deeply on the courage to stand firm in our faith and the power of truth to set us free.
In Daniel 3, we see the powerful story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They refused to bow down to the golden image set up by King Nebuchadnezzar, even though it meant being thrown into the blazing furnace. Their response was simple but strong: “Our God is able to deliver us, but even if He does not, we will not serve your gods.” (v.17-18)
This kind of faith is what Lent invites us into—a bold and unshakable trust in God, even when we are tested by fire. And what happened? In verses 24-25, the king saw a fourth man in the fire, one who looked like “a son of the gods.” That was God showing up in their suffering. He didn’t just rescue them—He joined them in the fire.
In John 8:31-42, Jesus tells those who believed in Him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” This freedom Jesus talks about is not just freedom from sin, but freedom from fear, from doubt, and from every power that tries to control or intimidate us.
Lent is a time to remain in the Word—to dig deeper into prayer, Scripture, and surrender. As we do, Jesus sets us free from everything that holds us captive. The world may offer us false gods—comfort, fame, pleasure—but only Jesus offers truth that liberates the soul.
Reflection:
- Are there “fires” you’re facing right now—trials, temptations, or fears?
- Like the three Hebrew boys, will you stand in faith, even when it’s uncomfortable?
- Are you continuing in Jesus’ word, allowing His truth to shape your life?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being with me in every fire. Help me to stand firm in faith, even when it’s hard. Teach me to hold on to Your Word, so I may walk in the freedom only You can give. This Lent, purify my heart and strengthen my trust in You. Amen.
Let this day remind you: the fire cannot destroy those who walk in the truth. Keep going—God is with you!
