Gathered to Guide: The Church’s Call to Spiritual Discernment

Scripture: Acts 15:1–6 (Focus: Verse 6)

Devotional:

In a time when differing voices echo through pulpits, screens, and social feeds, the Church must return to one of its earliest practices—gathering in unity to seek God’s will. Acts 15:6 tells us, “The apostles and elders met to consider this question.” This was no casual meeting—it was a spiritual assembly born out of the need to resolve deep division regarding salvation and tradition.

Today’s Church faces similar tensions: cultural shifts, doctrinal divides, and generational misunderstandings. Yet, just like the early apostles, we are called not to ignore these tensions or fight in isolation, but to gather, seek, and discern.

Spiritual discernment isn’t merely about having the right opinion. It’s about listening deeply—first to the Holy Spirit, then to one another. When the apostles convened, their priority wasn’t personal preference but divine direction. They set aside egos, traditions, and bias to preserve the unity of the faith.

In our contemporary world, this passage calls today’s leaders, communities, and believers to return to collective prayer, humble dialogue, and Scripture-centered discernment. When we do this, we become light in the confusion and true guides in a wandering world.

Prayer:
Lord, teach us to pause, gather, and seek Your wisdom in unity. Help us discern not for division, but for Your glory and the strengthening of Your Church. Amen.
