Scripture: Acts 16:9–10, John 15:19
Devotional:
There are moments in life when everything we’ve planned seems to stall—doors close, opportunities vanish, and confusion sets in. Yet, what appears to be a detour is often God’s redirection.
In Acts 16:6–10, Paul and his companions were forbidden by the Holy Spirit from preaching in Asia. Twice they attempted to enter regions, but the Spirit did not permit them. Then came the vision of a man from Macedonia pleading, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." Paul obeyed instantly, recognizing the voice of divine direction.
This passage reveals a vital truth: God’s assignment for us often lies outside our comfort zone. Macedonia was unfamiliar territory, both geographically and culturally. But it was where God’s purpose would unfold powerfully—through the conversion of Lydia, the deliverance of a slave girl, and the salvation of a jailer and his household.
John 15:19 reminds us why this discomfort exists:
"If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own... But I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
When God calls you out, He also sets you apart. That "out" may be a new city, a challenging job, a hard conversation, or an unexpected ministry. And with that call may come rejection, misunderstanding, and even hostility. But remember—your assignment is not about your comfort, it’s about God’s kingdom.
Paul’s obedience changed lives across an entire region. What might God do through you if you embrace the unfamiliar?
Reflection:
- Are you resisting a direction because it feels uncomfortable?
- What vision or burden has God placed in your heart that you've been ignoring?
- What would it look like to obey—even without all the details?
Prayer:
Lord, help me trust Your leading even when it disrupts my plans. Give me the courage to follow You beyond my comfort zone, knowing You go before me. Amen.
