When the Glory Comes

Scripture: Exodus 40:34–38

“Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.”Exodus 40:34 (NIV)

Devotinal

When the glory of God descends, it doesn’t just come to impress, it comes to take over. In Exodus 40:34–38, we find a powerful moment at the end of Israel’s wilderness setup: the tabernacle, God’s dwelling place, is complete. Moses has obeyed every instruction. Then, the cloud covers the tent, and the glory of the Lord fills the space. Everything stops, even Moses cannot enter. The people don’t move unless the cloud moves. This is sensitivity to the glory.

In today’s world, God is still revealing His glory not just in grand moments, but in quiet instructions, nudges, and divine shifts. But the question is: Are we sensitive enough to notice? Or are we so caught up in doing life that we miss when He comes?

1. The Glory Interrupts: Make Room

God’s glory doesn’t fit into our boxes. When it comes, it often halts our routine and demands our full attention. Moses had just finished setting things in order, but the glory interrupted. Sensitivity begins with a willingness to pause when God enters.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”Psalm 46:10

Application:
Cultivate a posture of stillness in your heart. Create moments in your day to pause, worship, and invite God to take over.

2. The Glory Leads: Don’t Move Without It

Israel only journeyed when the cloud lifted. They didn’t act based on convenience or pressure, but on the presence. This teaches us discernment in decision-making.

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you...”Isaiah 30:21

Application:
Stop asking God to follow your plans—instead, follow His. Don’t move ahead in relationships, business, or ministry unless He leads.

3. The Glory Guides Through Darkness

The fire in the cloud at night was God’s assurance that even in the dark, they weren’t alone. Sensitivity to God’s glory helps you stay grounded when life gets uncertain.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105

Application:
Don’t let dark seasons make you doubt God’s presence. Trust that His glory is with you, even when you don’t feel it.

4. The Glory Requires Reverence and Purity

God’s glory is holy. It’s not something we take lightly. Moses, the man who spoke with God face to face, couldn’t even enter the tent when the glory fell.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”Matthew 5:8

Application:
Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Keep short accounts with God. Honor His presence with purity in thought, motive, and lifestyle.

Final Encouragement: Stay Watchful

God is still moving. His glory still fills hearts, homes, and churches that are open and ready. But sensitivity is key. It’s not about goosebumps—it’s about being tuned in spiritually, willing to wait, watch, and respond.

Let your prayer be like Moses’:

“Show me your glory.”Exodus 33:18

Prayer:

Lord, make me sensitive to Your glory. Teach me to pause when You move, to wait when You wait, and to follow You even in the dark. Let Your presence not just visit my life but dwell in it daily. May I never become too busy or too distracted to notice when You come. Amen.
