When the Wait Feels Too Long

Scripture Focus: Genesis 50:24–25

 Devotional

When Joseph was about to die, he said something remarkable to his family: “God will surely come to your aid… and you must carry my bones up from this place.” (Genesis 50:25). This was not a poetic farewell, it was a bold act of faith. Joseph knew Egypt was not their final home. He believed that God’s promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob would be fulfilled, even if it did not happen in his lifetime.

That kind of faith is rare in today’s world. We are used to speed, fast food, quick replies, instant downloads. Waiting feels like a waste of time. But the promises of God are not like express deliveries. They often take time, testing, and trust.

Maybe you are waiting right now. Waiting for a breakthrough. Waiting for healing. Waiting for direction. And if you are honest, it is tiring. You might be tempted to question if God really spoke at all. But Joseph teaches us something powerful: God’s word does not expire. It waits for the appointed time.

Think about this: Joseph died in Egypt. But over 400 years later, when Moses led the Israelites out of slavery, they carried Joseph’s bones with them (Exodus 13:19). That one act confirmed that God keeps every promise, even across centuries.

In our modern context, it might look like this:

  • A single mother who has held onto God’s word for provision, even as bills pile up.
  • A young graduate who has believed God for a job, despite rejections.
  • A couple trusting God for a child after years of waiting.

If that is you today, do not let your heart grow weary. Instead, let your faith be anchored in the word of God. Reread His promises. Pray them. Speak them aloud. Write them on sticky notes. Remind your soul that God does not lie. He does not forget.

Joseph believed without seeing. Can you do the same?

Prayer
Lord, help me to trust You even when the wait feels too long. Strengthen my faith to hold onto Your word like Joseph did. Let me believe, speak, and walk in Your promises, knowing that You are always faithful. Amen.
