Scripture Reading:“When the LORD your God brings you into the land… then beware, lest you forget the LORD…” — Deuteronomy 6:10–12
Devotional:
It’s easy to cling to God when life feels hard, but what happens when prayers are answered, debts are cleared, the pantry is full, and opportunities overflow?
Israel was warned about this very danger. After years of wilderness dependence, they were heading into a land with “large, flourishing cities you did not build” and “houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide.” The warning was simple but urgent: don’t forget the God who brought you here.
Abundance can be a blessing, but it can also be a test. Comfort can dull our sense of need, and success can whisper that we got here on our own. Gratitude is the antidote. It shifts the focus from what I have to who gave it to me.
Remembering God means more than a quick “thank You” at mealtime. It’s living with an awareness that every breath, every gift, every opportunity comes from Him. It’s giving back through worship, generosity, service, and obedience.
If God has blessed you with plenty, keep Him at the center. Let your comfort draw you closer, not farther away. As Moses told Israel, abundance should make us more worshipful, not forgetful.
Reflection Questions:
- In what areas of life has God blessed you recently?
- How can you actively show gratitude in those areas?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for every blessing in my life. Keep my heart humble, my hands open, and my eyes fixed on You, whether in need or in plenty. Amen!
