Scripture Reference: Matthew 24:44 – “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Devotional
Life today moves at such a fast pace that it’s easy to get caught up in routines: work, school, bills, social media, relationships. In the middle of all this, Jesus’ words remind us that His return will not be announced on a news channel or posted with a countdown on Instagram. He said it plainly: “the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.”
Think about it. We prepare for so many things that may or may not happen: exams, weddings, retirement, even emergencies. Yet how often do we prepare our hearts for the one event that is guaranteed: the return of Christ?
Being ready does not mean living in fear or trying to predict dates. Instead, it is about how we live daily: walking in obedience, showing love, forgiving quickly, being faithful in our responsibilities, and keeping Christ at the center of our decisions. Readiness is less about watching the clock and more about living a life that reflects His presence.
In a world that thrives on distractions, the call is to stay alert spiritually. Jesus’ return is certain, but the timing is not. The best way to be ready is to live today in a way you won’t regret if tomorrow He comes.
Reflection Questions
- If Jesus returned today, would He find me faithful in what I’m doing?
- What distractions or habits pull me away from being spiritually alert?
- How can I live more intentionally for Christ in my daily routines?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for reminding me that Your return is sure, even if the timing is hidden. Help me not to live carelessly or distracted but to walk daily in readiness, love, and obedience. May my life always reflect a heart prepared to meet You. Amen.
