Scripture: Genesis 28:16 – “When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.’”
Devotional Reflection
Jacob was running for his life, exhausted and uncertain about the future. In that lonely place, God met him in a dream, showing him a ladder reaching to heaven. When Jacob woke up, he realized something powerful: God had been there all along, even though he hadn’t noticed.
We often rush through life so focused on problems, deadlines, or worries that we forget God is with us. Like Jacob, we may feel abandoned, yet God quietly surrounds us with His presence. The issue isn’t that He isn’t there—it’s that we aren’t paying attention.
Spiritual awakening starts when we pause long enough to see the holy in the ordinary. Your home, your commute, even your struggles can become places of encounter when you recognize that God is near. When Jacob realized this, his fear gave way to worship, and the ground beneath him became holy.
Today, be mindful. Whisper a prayer before you begin work, thank God for small blessings, or simply pause to breathe and remember He is with you. Awakening to His presence changes how we see everything.
Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to see You in the ordinary moments of my life. Help me to live each day aware that You are near. Amen.
