Scripture Reading:
Luke 14:13–14
“But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
Devotional Reflection
Jesus redefines generosity in this passage. In a culture where giving often came with the expectation of return, He directs attention to a higher standard — giving that expects nothing in return. True generosity mirrors God’s character, who gives freely to all, even those who cannot repay Him.
When we give only to those who can benefit us, our motive becomes transactional. But when we extend kindness to the poor, the overlooked, and the helpless, our giving becomes worship. It pleases God because it flows from a heart shaped by His love, not human approval. Such giving might go unnoticed on earth, but it is celebrated in heaven.
Life Application
Every act of giving reveals our heart. God calls us to give out of compassion, not convenience. Look around you — there’s always someone who needs encouragement, support, or a helping hand. Give your time, resources, or care without expecting repayment. The blessing may not come immediately, but it is certain, for God Himself becomes your rewarder.
Ask yourself: Do I give to be seen, or do I give to please God?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to give with a pure heart. Help me to see the needs of others and respond with love. May my generosity reflect Your grace, and may my reward be found in You alone. Amen.
