Offenses Will Come

Scripture Reading:

Luke 17:1 – “Then He said to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!’”

Devotional Reflection

Jesus makes a profound statement: offenses are inevitable. Living in a fallen world means we will face misunderstandings, betrayal, and hurt—even within the church. But His warning doesn’t end there. The emphasis is on how we respond and on avoiding becoming the source of another’s downfall.

Christ calls His followers to maturity—to expect challenges without losing faith, and to handle offenses in a way that reflects His character. Offenses can either make us bitter or better, depending on whether we allow grace to lead our reactions. God uses these moments to refine our hearts and test our obedience to His word.

Life Application

When offenses come:

  1. Guard your heart—don’t let resentment take root (Proverbs 4:23).
  2. Respond with grace—seek peace rather than revenge (Romans 12:18).
  3. Learn and grow—let every offense draw you closer to Christ.
  4. Be cautious not to offend others—live with integrity, humility, and love.

Choosing forgiveness and wisdom in the face of offense keeps you free and strengthens your witness as a disciple of Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to handle offenses with grace and wisdom. Teach me to forgive quickly, love deeply, and never be a cause of stumbling to others. May my life reflect Your patience and peace, even in difficult moments. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
