Devotional Reflection

When Jesus called Peter and Andrew, they were doing what they had always done. Ordinary work. Ordinary tools. Ordinary rhythm. Yet in that moment, everything shifted. Jesus invited them into a new life, and their response was simple. They left their nets.

Nets represent more than occupation. They carry our comfort, fears, routines, and the things we hold on to because they feel familiar. Sometimes they hold our excuses. At other moments they hold our identity. But when Jesus calls, He calls us away from the things that keep us tied down so we can step into what He has prepared for us.

December often comes with reflection. It is a month that invites us to look back and look forward at the same time. As we wrap up the year, the Lord is still calling us to release every net that slows our walk with Him. Letting go is not always easy, yet it is the doorway to growth. The disciples discovered their true purpose only after they released what they knew. You also discover new strength, clarity, and grace when you trust His voice above your comfort.

What are the “nets” I still hold on to?Is Jesus calling me into deeper obedience as the year ends? What step of faith have I delayed because I fear letting go?

Life Application

  1. Identify one habit, fear, or distraction you need to release before the month ends.
  2. Surrender it in prayer and replace it with a simple act of obedience.
  3. Write down one faith goal for 2026 that aligns with God’s call for your life.
  4. Decide on a daily practice in December that keeps your heart focused on Jesus.

Prayer

Father, thank You for calling me into a deeper walk with You. Give me the courage to release every net that holds me back. Help me step into the purpose You have prepared for me. As I close this year, let my heart be steady, my obedience be real, and my faith be strong. Lead me into the new season with clarity and confidence. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
