"The Unchanging Word in a Changing World"

but my words will never pass away

Text: Luke 21:33 ("Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.")

Introduction

Good morning, beloved in Christ. Today, we live in a world that is constantly changing. Technology evolves, cultures shift, governments rise and fall, and even our personal lives experience seasons of change. It’s no wonder many feel uncertain and restless.

In Luke 21:33, Jesus offers a profound truth: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” This simple yet powerful statement reminds us that while everything around us may fade, God’s Word remains eternal. It is unchanging, reliable, and steadfast.

This morning, we will explore how God's Word provides us with:

1. A foundation in a transient world.

2. Stability in uncertainty.

3. Guidance for daily living.

4. Hope for the future

1. The Temporal vs. the Eternal

Jesus contrasts the temporary nature of creation with the permanence of His Word. Heaven and earth, as vast and enduring as they may seem, will one day fade away. But His Word is eternal, unshakable, and everlasting.

Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever."

Psalm 102:25-27: "They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment... but you remain the same."

We often build our lives on things that won’t last—wealth, status, and worldly achievements. But these are like sandcastles washed away by the tide. Are we anchoring our lives in what is temporary or in the eternal promises of God?

2. God's Word: The Anchor in Uncertainty

In an ever-changing world, uncertainty is inevitable. We face personal challenges, societal upheavals, and global crises. But God's Word remains a source of clarity, direction, and peace.

Hebrews 6:19: "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."

Matthew 7:24-25: The wise man builds his house on the rock, not on sand, so it withstands the storm.

Life's storms—be they financial, relational, or spiritual—can shake us. But when we hold fast to the promises of God, we find stability. His Word assures us that He is with us, even in the midst of the storm.

3. Living by the Word

God's Word is not just a source of comfort; it is a guide for daily living. It shapes our decisions, molds our character, and lights our path.

Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

James 1:22: "Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

Living by the Word requires more than hearing it; it demands action. We are called to align our thoughts, words, and actions with Scripture. This daily obedience transforms us and keeps us rooted in truth.

4. Hope for the Future

Jesus' statement in Luke 21:33 is not just a declaration of the Word's permanence but a promise of its fulfillment. God's Word assures us of a glorious future, including the return of Christ and the establishment of His eternal kingdom.

Revelation 22:6-7: "These words are trustworthy and true... Behold, I am coming soon."

Matthew 24:35: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

In a world filled with despair, the promises of God bring hope. His Word assures us of His presence, His power, and His ultimate victory over sin and death. Let us remain faithful, knowing that His Word will never fail.

Conclusion

Beloved, in a world where everything changes, God's Word is our anchor. It is eternal, reliable, and true. As we navigate life’s uncertainties, let us:

Build our lives on the eternal foundation of His Word.

Trust in His promises to guide us through challenges.

Obey His Word daily as a testimony of our faith.

Hold fast to the hope of a future secured in Christ.

Final Thought:

Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." Let this truth be your anchor, your guide, and your hope. Trust in the unchanging Word of God, and you will never be shaken.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unchanging Word. Help us to trust in its promises, live by its guidance, and find hope in its assurance. May we stand firm in faith, even as the world around us changes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
