Avoiding Stumbling Blocks

Scripture: "Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way." — Romans 14:13 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought:

As believers, we have the freedom to make choices in our Christian walk, but our freedom should never come at the expense of another believer’s faith. In Romans 14, Paul encourages us to be mindful of how our actions affect others, especially those who are weaker in the faith.

Imagine a child learning to walk. If we place obstacles in their path, they are more likely to stumble. In the same way, when we engage in behaviors that may be permissible for us but cause another believer to struggle, we risk becoming a stumbling block.

For example, certain activities, words, or habits may not bother our conscience, but if they lead a fellow believer into confusion, doubt, or even sin, we must reconsider them. Love should be our guiding principle. Instead of insisting on our own way, we should prioritize the spiritual well-being of others.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are there any actions or behaviors in my life that might cause someone else to stumble in their faith?
  • Am I more focused on my freedom in Christ than on loving and supporting fellow believers?
  • How can I be intentional about building others up instead of becoming a hindrance?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to walk in love and be mindful of how my actions affect those around me. Give me wisdom to make choices that honor You and encourage others in their faith. Let my life reflect Your grace, patience, and kindness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
