Called to Speak, Not to Please

Scripture: "But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me; for all the house of Israel are impudent and hard-hearted." — Ezekiel 3:7 (NKJV)

Devotional:

Have you ever hesitated to share the truth because you feared rejection? Many of us long to be accepted, but God’s call on our lives is not to seek approval from people—it is to be faithful to His Word. In Ezekiel 3, God sends Ezekiel to a rebellious people, warning him that they will not listen. However, Ezekiel’s job was not to ensure their acceptance of the message; it was to deliver it with obedience.

God made it clear that Ezekiel was not being sent to a foreign people who would readily listen, but to his own nation—one that had hardened its heart (Ezekiel 3:5-7). This is a reminder that speaking God’s truth is not always easy, especially when facing resistance from those closest to us. Yet, God does not call us to be successful by human standards; He calls us to be faithful.

To equip Ezekiel, God made him as "unyielding and hardened" as the people he was sent to (Ezekiel 3:8-9). This was not a call to be stubborn in the flesh, but to stand firm in the Spirit. Likewise, when we face opposition, we must not be discouraged. Instead, we must be strengthened by God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Reflection:

  • Are you willing to speak the truth even if it means being unpopular?
  • Do you find yourself more concerned with pleasing people than obeying God?
  • How can you rely on the Holy Spirit to strengthen you in difficult conversations?

Prayer:

Father, help me to stand firm in Your truth, even when it is difficult. Give me the boldness to speak Your Word with love and confidence. Let my focus be on obedience to You rather than the approval of people. Strengthen me with Your Spirit so that I may fulfill the calling You have placed on my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
