Scripture: “They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath.” — Ezekiel 7:19 (NIV)
Devotional Message
In today’s world, wealth is often seen as the ultimate source of security. Many people place their trust in money, believing that financial stability can protect them from life’s challenges. While wealth can provide comfort, it cannot save us from God’s judgment or bring true peace to our souls.
In Ezekiel 7:19, God declares that the people of Israel will realize too late that their riches are worthless in the face of divine wrath. Their silver and gold, once cherished, will be thrown into the streets like trash. Why? Because they had trusted in their wealth instead of in God. They had abandoned righteousness, indulged in sin, and believed that material possessions could shield them from the consequences of their actions.
This warning is relevant today. No amount of money can buy salvation, peace, or eternal life. Jesus Himself said, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36). Our security must be rooted in Christ, not in bank accounts, investments, or possessions.
Reflection Questions
- Are you trusting in material wealth more than in God’s provision?
- How can you use your financial blessings to honor God rather than idolizing them?
- What steps can you take to ensure that your faith is in God, not in temporary riches?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to put my trust in You alone. Teach me to see wealth as a tool for Your glory, not as a source of security. Keep my heart from idolatry and remind me that true riches are found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
