Intercession for a Sinful Nation

Scripture Reference:
Ezekiel 8:9-10

"And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about."

Devotional Message:

Ezekiel was given a vision of the deep corruption and idolatry in Israel. The leaders and elders, who were supposed to guide the people in righteousness, had turned to false gods, engaging in detestable practices right within the temple of God. The scene was heartbreaking because it showed a nation that had abandoned the true and living God.

As we reflect on this passage, we must ask ourselves: What is the spiritual state of our nation today? Are we seeing corruption, injustice, idolatry, and moral decay around us? It is easy to point fingers at those in leadership, but as believers, we have a divine responsibility—not just to recognize sin but to stand in the gap through intercession.

The Power of Intercession

Intercession is standing before God on behalf of others, crying out for mercy, repentance, and transformation. In Ezekiel’s time, God looked for someone to stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30), but He found none. Today, He is still looking for intercessors—people who will humble themselves, pray, and seek His face for the healing of their nations (2 Chronicles 7:14).

How Can We Intercede for Our Nation?

  1. Pray for Repentance – Ask God to open the hearts of the people and leaders to turn back to Him.
  2. Pray Against Spiritual Blindness – Just like the elders in Ezekiel’s vision thought God did not see their sins, many today live as though God is absent. Pray for a fresh revelation of God’s truth.
  3. Pray for Righteous Leaders – Ask God to raise godly leaders who will govern with wisdom, justice, and fear of the Lord.
  4. Pray for Revival – Pray that the church will rise up in holiness and power, leading the nation back to God.

A Call to Action

God is looking for modern-day Ezekiels—men and women who will cry out for their generation. Will you be one of them? The time to intercede is now. Let us not be silent when darkness seems to prevail. Instead, let us rise as warriors in prayer, believing that God can turn hearts back to Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in humility, acknowledging the sins of our nation. Forgive us for turning away from Your ways. We ask for Your mercy and revival. Raise up intercessors who will stand in the gap and pray for transformation. May righteousness and justice prevail in our land. In Jesus' name, Amen.
