Spiritual Blindness and Sin

Scripture: He said to me, “The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed, and the city is full of injustice. They say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.’ So I will not look on them with pity or spare them, but I will bring down on their own heads what they have done.” — Ezekiel 9:9-10 (NIV)

Devotional Thought

There is a dangerous lie that leads many into sin: "God does not see." The people of Jerusalem in Ezekiel’s time believed that God had abandoned them, so they continued in their wickedness, thinking He would not hold them accountable. But God saw everything—the injustice, the bloodshed, and their hardened hearts. His judgment came because they refused to repent.

Today, this same deception blinds many. Some think that because consequences are delayed, God does not see or care about their actions. But Scripture reminds us: "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account" (Hebrews 4:13).

Spiritual blindness leads to complacency in sin. But when we walk in the fear of the Lord, we acknowledge His presence in every area of our lives. He sees not only our outward actions but also our hearts. The good news is that God does not desire destruction but repentance. If we turn to Him, He is ready to forgive and restore us.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there areas in your life where you have ignored God’s presence?
  2. Do you justify any actions, thinking God does not care or notice?
  3. How can you cultivate a heart that remains sensitive to God's Word?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have ignored Your presence and followed my own desires. Help me to live in the awareness that You see all things. Soften my heart to turn away from sin and walk in righteousness. Let me not be spiritually blind but open my eyes to Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
