Preparing for Purpose: Dreams as a Call to Prayer

Scripture Focus:

"In the second year of the reign of Artaxerxes the great, in the first day of the month Nisan, Mordecai... had a dream." — Esther 11:2 (Greek Version)

Devotional Message:

Sometimes, before the battle ever begins in the natural, God sounds the alarm in the spirit. In Esther 11, Mordecai has a powerful dream—one that appears symbolic and mysterious. He dreams of two great dragons preparing to fight, nations in uproar, and a small nation crying out to God for help. It may seem cryptic, but it’s deeply prophetic. God was giving Mordecai insight into the spiritual conflict to come.

Mordecai didn’t ignore the dream. The Bible says he “laid it up in his heart” (Esther 11:12), showing that he recognized its weight. For us today, this speaks volumes. Dreams and visions, when given by God, are often not just to inform—they’re invitations. Invitations to pray, to prepare, and to partner with God in His plan.

How often do we brush off a vivid dream, a divine impression, or a sense of urgency in our spirit? Mordecai’s example teaches us to discern the spiritual warnings, prepare our hearts, and intercede for what is coming. His dream foretold the threat against the Jews—but it was prayer, fasting, and divine intervention that brought deliverance.

As children of God, we must recognize that spiritual sensitivity is part of our calling. God still speaks—through dreams, impressions, His Word, and His Spirit. When He does, it's not just to stir our curiosity but to awaken our responsibility.

Prayer:
Lord, open my spiritual eyes and ears to hear You clearly. Teach me to recognize Your voice in the stillness of night, in the whispers of the Spirit, and through the impressions You place in my heart. When You speak through dreams or promptings, help me not to fear, ignore, or doubt—but to rise up in prayer and obedience. Prepare me for purpose, and let me not be caught unaware. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge:
This week, keep a dream or prayer journal beside your bed. Each morning, write down anything God might have revealed while you slept. Pray over it and ask for wisdom and discernment. Let your dreams become fuel for intercession and purpose.
