Lenten Devotional-Day 37 – Thursday in Holy Week
Isaiah 50:4–9 | Psalm 70 | Hebrews 12:1–3 | John 13:21–32
Devotional Thought:
As we enter the final days of the Lenten season, today’s readings remind us that the journey of faith is not always easy—but God gives us the strength to endure and the grace to continue.
In Isaiah 50, we see the picture of a faithful servant who listens to God daily and doesn’t turn away, even when things get tough. The servant says, “The Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced.” This shows us that when we rely on God, He gives us courage—even when people misunderstand, reject, or betray us.
Psalm 70 is a cry for help: “O God, make haste to deliver me!” Sometimes we are overwhelmed, just like the psalmist. But it’s okay to call on God honestly. He hears us, especially in times of trial.
In Hebrews 12, we are reminded that we are not alone. Many others have walked this path before us—through pain, doubt, and sacrifice. Most importantly, Jesus is our example. “For the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross.” If He didn’t give up, we too can keep going.
Then in John 13, we see Jesus being betrayed by someone close—Judas. But even in that painful moment, Jesus doesn’t panic or hate. He stays calm and focused on His mission. That’s the power of love and obedience.
Reflection:
Have you ever felt betrayed, tired, or misunderstood during this Lenten journey? You’re not alone. Jesus has been there too. And just like Him, you are called to keep your heart fixed on God. Lent is not only a time of fasting and prayer, but a time to grow in endurance and humility.
Encouragement for Today:
Don’t give up now. You’re almost there. Keep running your race, looking to Jesus—the One who understands every struggle. And remember, the Lord is your help. Just like the servant in Isaiah, you will not be put to shame.
Prayer:
Lord, in this holy week, help me to stay strong in You. When I feel weak, be my strength. When I’m betrayed or rejected, remind me that You understand. Teach me to walk with patience, love, and purpose—just like Jesus. Amen.
