Scripture:
John 17:23 (NIV)
"I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them..."
Devotional
In Jesus’ final moments before the cross, He offered a deeply personal and prophetic prayer — not just for His disciples, but for all who would believe in Him. His central request? Unity. Not a superficial agreement, but a deep, abiding oneness rooted in love. A unity that mirrors the relationship between Jesus and the Father.
This was not a prayer for perfection. It was a plea for connection.
True Christian unity is not about uniformity — where everyone looks, talks, and thinks alike. It is about diversity harmonized by love. When we let go of pride, bitterness, and selfish ambition, and choose to walk in humility, compassion, and selflessness, we honor the heart of God.
Unity is Spiritual Power
Unity among believers is not just desirable; it is essential. Psalm 133 tells us that where there is unity, God commands a blessing. In Acts 2, when the believers were in one accord, the Holy Spirit came in power.
The enemy fears a united Church because a united Church is unstoppable.
Our disunity delays revival. Our grudges grieve the Spirit. But when we say, “Lord, make us one,” we open the door for heaven to invade earth.
Love: The Bridge to Unity
Paul writes in Colossians 3:14: “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
Love is not passive — it’s intentional. It means:
- Choosing peace when conflict is easier.
- Forgiving when revenge is tempting.
- Serving when no one claps for you.
This kind of love does not flow from the flesh — it flows from the Spirit. And when the Church begins to love like this, the world will take notice.
Prayer:
Father, we repent for every way we’ve allowed division to take root in our hearts. Break down every wall that separates us. Teach us to love like You love — with humility, grace, and compassion. Make us one, Lord, so the world will see Your love in us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
