Scriptural Text:
Psalm 112:10 – "The wicked will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing."
Devotional Message:
Good morning, beloved in Christ.
Today’s reflection focuses on a verse many shy away from, but one that holds a deep well of encouragement for those walking uprightly in a corrupt world. Psalm 112:10 draws a contrast—one that may seem harsh but is rich in spiritual insight.
The wicked will see… and be vexed. That means they’ll be frustrated, irritated, and even enraged—not because of your wrongdoing, but because of your rising. Because of how God honors a life of integrity.
In our world today, those who choose righteousness often face opposition. Consider the workplace: a colleague refuses to cut corners or falsify reports, and as a result, gets mocked or sidelined. Yet in time, that same integrity opens doors—a promotion, a new opportunity, or the trust of leadership. Meanwhile, those who scheme and manipulate are left confused, even bitter, when their strategies backfire.
This is what David captures in the psalm. The wicked will gnash their teeth—not out of repentance, but out of envy and helplessness. The longing of the wicked is often to undermine the just. But Scripture says their desires will come to nothing. Not because the righteous fight them back, but because God Himself is the defender of those who fear Him.
Think of Joseph in Egypt. He was lied on, imprisoned, forgotten. But his righteous heart stayed consistent. When God elevated him, those who once tried to destroy him had no choice but to see—and be silenced.
Let this encourage you: keep your heart pure. Keep doing right even when it's inconvenient or unpopular. Don't fret when people seem to get away with evil. There is a bigger picture, and God keeps score in ways man cannot see.
The psalm doesn’t end with the frustration of the wicked. It ends with the security and honor of the righteous. That’s your portion when you walk with God.
Call to Action:
Today, ask yourself: Am I choosing righteousness when no one is watching?
Pray for the grace to stay faithful, even when others seem to prosper by doing wrong. Write down one area where you’re tempted to compromise and commit it to God in prayer.
