Before Glory Comes the Cross

Scripture Reading:

Luke 17:20–25; Philippians 2:5–11; Hebrews 12:2

Devotional Reflection

When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom, many expected a powerful display of political dominance. Yet, He reminded His followers that before the crown comes the cross. The Son of Man had to “suffer many things and be rejected” before His glory could be revealed. This truth runs through Scripture—Abraham left all before inheriting the promise, Joseph endured the pit before the palace, and David faced rejection before the throne.

The Kingdom of God does not begin with comfort or applause but with surrender and obedience. Jesus’ suffering was not a detour but the very path to victory. The same principle applies to us: the road to spiritual maturity, divine promotion, or lasting impact often passes through seasons of pain and perseverance.

Our generation, like the Pharisees, seeks instant success and visible results. But Jesus calls us to trust the process of the cross—to allow God to refine, prune, and shape us for His glory. The cross is not a symbol of defeat; it is the foundation of eternal triumph.

Life Application

  • Embrace the process: Don’t despise the seasons of testing; they prepare you for greater glory.
  • Follow Christ’s example: Let humility and obedience define your journey, just as they defined His.
  • Keep your eyes on the promise: Beyond every trial lies a testimony; beyond every cross, a crown.

When challenges arise, remember: God never wastes pain. The suffering you endure in faith becomes the seed for glory that lasts forever.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that before glory comes the cross. Teach me to embrace Your process with faith and patience. Help me to follow Christ’s path of obedience, knowing that my present trials are preparing me for future glory. Strengthen my heart to endure and to keep my eyes fixed on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
