Where Are the Nine?

Scripture Reading: Luke 17:11–19

Devotional Reflection

As Jesus journeyed toward Jerusalem, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance and cried out for mercy. Their voices were united in need but divided in gratitude. When Jesus told them to show themselves to the priests, they obeyed, and along the way, they were healed. Yet only one—a Samaritan—returned to thank Him.

Jesus’ question, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?” pierces through time and still confronts us today. Many call on God when they are in trouble, but few return to honor Him when the answer comes. Gratitude is not just a polite response; it is a spiritual discipline that keeps our hearts humble and connected to God.

The Samaritan’s act of returning to glorify Jesus revealed something deeper than healing—it revealed faith. While the others received restoration of their bodies, he received wholeness in his soul. His gratitude became worship, and his faith drew him closer to Christ.

Life Application

Gratitude distinguishes true followers from casual seekers. When God blesses, heals, or provides, take time to return and give Him thanks. Keep a “thanksgiving journal” to record daily mercies and answered prayers. Let every testimony point back to Jesus as your source. Remember, gratitude is not complete until it is expressed.

Ask yourself today: Have I taken God’s goodness for granted? Have I been among the nine or the one who returns to worship?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I’ve forgotten to thank You. Teach me to be like the one who returned—to glorify You in every blessing and every breakthrough. Fill my heart with gratitude that overflows into worship. May I never take Your goodness for granted. In Jesus’ name, Amen
