The Wisdom of Planning Ahead

Scripture Reading: Luke 16:1–8

Reflection

In this parable, Jesus shares the story of a steward accused of wasting his master’s goods. Realizing he’s about to lose his position, the steward takes swift action to secure his future. While his actions were not morally right, his foresight and quick thinking caught the master’s attention. Jesus wasn’t commending dishonesty but the wisdom of preparing ahead.

Many believers live without spiritual or practical foresight, taking life as it comes. Yet God calls us to be intentional ,to plan our lives, resources, and time with eternity in view. The “sons of this world” often show more strategic thinking in pursuing temporary goals than God’s children do in pursuing eternal ones. As followers of Christ, we’re called to match our faith with wise planning, grounded in godly principles.

Planning ahead doesn’t mean depending on our own understanding; it means seeking God’s guidance in every decision. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” True wisdom is not in cunning, but in aligning our plans with God’s will.

Life Application

  • Be intentional: Don’t live aimlessly. Set godly goals for your spiritual growth, family, and work.
  • Seek God’s direction: Before making major plans, pray and ask for divine wisdom.
  • Be accountable: Remember that one day, we’ll give an account of how we managed what God entrusted to us.
  • Invest in eternity: Use your time, gifts, and possessions in ways that will bear eternal fruit.

When you walk with foresight guided by the Spirit, you position yourself for divine favor and lasting impact.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, teach me to walk with wisdom and foresight. Help me not to waste the opportunities and resources You’ve entrusted to me. Grant me discernment to make decisions that honor You and prepare me for eternal reward. May every plan I make align with Your will, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
