The Anchor That Never Moves
Life is full of uncertainty. Seasons shift. People come and go. Circumstances can change overnight. What felt secure yesterday may be shaken today. In the middle of this ever-moving world, we often crave something , or someone , stable and sure.
When Moses encountered God at the burning bush, he asked a reasonable question: “What is His name?” In that culture, names held deep significance. They revealed character and identity. God's answer was simple, yet profound: “I AM WHO I AM.” This was not just a name, it was a declaration. God was telling Moses and all who would listen: “I do not change. I exist outside of time. I always was, I always am, and I always will be.”
That truth still holds. God’s name, “I AM,” speaks to His eternal, unchanging nature. He is not defined by our seasons, our crises, or our questions. He does not age, falter, or grow weary. He doesn’t panic when the world feels out of control. He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Why does this matter?
Because when we anchor our lives to a God who never changes, we gain stability in a world that never stops shifting. When your health fails, when friendships break, when your plans collapse the I AM is still present. Still powerful. Still faithful.
God’s constancy is not cold or distant. He is not just the same in essence, He is the same in His love, His compassion, His mercy, and His commitment to His promises. The same God who called Moses is the same God who walks with you now. He doesn’t have mood swings. He’s not more loving one day than the next. His grace is consistent, and His Word is secure.
In practical terms, this means you can trust Him fully. Not just when things make sense, but especially when they do not. Trusting the “I AM” means surrendering your need for full understanding and resting in His full reliability. It means facing change without fear, knowing your God does not change.
So take a breath. Steady your heart. Look away from the chaos for a moment, and fix your gaze on the One who is unmoved. He has always been God. He is God now. And He will be God tomorrow.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You are the great I AM. When everything else shifts, You remain constant. Help me to rest in Your unchanging presence and trust Your eternal name. In moments of fear or doubt, remind me that You have always been faithful and always will be. Amen.
